| Questions about domain name registration, transfers, and
parked domains.
| Q: Can I host
multiple domains in the same account? |
A: Yes, definitely. You can do this with any of
our accounts. Each domain will be pointed to its own
subdirectory and receive it's own unique IP address, and
this can be controlled through Control Panel. The disk and
transfer allowances are shared between all sites on the
account.
Remember, you can host as many domains as
you like with any of our accounts, but each account includes
support for a certain number of domain names. You can check
how many domain names your virtual plan includes by
referring to the "hosting for" column on our virtual
services page. All dedicated plans include support for 200
domain names. Support for additional domain names can be
purchased for any plan. |
| Q: Do I need
to have a domain in my account? |
A: No, you are not required to have a domain to
use our services.
If you wish simply to avoid registrar fees, consider our username.midnightoilnetwork.net,
which function exactly like real domain, but is not transferrable
when you end your service at Midnight Oil and does not support additional
e-mail accounts. |
| Q: May I use
a domain I have already registered somewhere else? |
| A: You may choose to use any registrar under any
top-level domain that suits your needs. We will configure
nameservers for your domain and provide that information to
you. We can host any domain name you like. You can find a
list of registries for top-level country code domains here. |
| Q: How does
a domain transfer work? |
A: Transferring a domain to Midnight Oil for Web hosting
requires two steps:
1. Submit the domain name to us through the Control
Panel's Domain Manager (for an existing account). 2.
Modify the domain at your registrar in order to utilize
our nameservers which have been configured to support your
domain. |
| Q: Can I create
subdomains on a domain |
A: Yes. If you already host www.mydomain.com with
us, then you may also create and host subdomain.mydomain.com
by going to the Control Panel's Domain Manager and entering
"mydomain.com" for the domain and "subdomain.mydomain.com"
for the server name. The subdomain will receive it's own
document root and unique IP address.
Also, if you
are comfortable with working with rewrite rules and your
domain was added with wildcard dns support, you may create a
set of rules to forward something.mydomain.com to
www.mydomain.com/something. You can find out more
information on how to do this by doing a quick search on google.com.
